- Fifteen students from the United Kingdom’s University of Greenwich recently participated in a month-long student exchange program

Fifteen students from the University of Greenwich in the UK recently participated in a month-long student exchange program at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in India. As part of the program, LPU’s Division of International Affairs organized a fashion show where UK students showcased a range of traditional Indian attires designed by students and faculty members of LPU’s School of Fashion Design.
During the fashion parade, the UK students were seen dressed in Punjabi, South Indian, Rajasthani, Haryanvi, and other related attires, which represented different ceremonial occasions in various parts of India.
The event was chaired by British Deputy High Commissioner to India (Chandigarh), Ms. Caroline Rowett, who applauded the study environment and infrastructure at the LPU campus. “It’s great to see students from the UK dressed up in Indian attires, and showcasing the rich textile heritage of the country”, she said.
The Pro-Chancellor of LPU, Mrs. Rashmi Mittal, expressed her hope of seeing more students from developed countries like the UK come to LPU in the future. LPU faculty members are determined to impart the best of India to young UK students, she said.
In addition to the fashion show, the visiting UK students had the opportunity to participate in various interactive activities and teachings organized by LPU. They attended classes on the Hindi language, Indian cooking, dances, fashions, crafts, politics, sociology, and Yoga, and also participated in workshops on coil-pottery, fabric identification, colouration, and dyeing, and a fashion week with practices, choreography, and a show.
The exchange program also included visits to places like the Golden Temple, Dharamshala, and Agra, as well as industrial visits. The students had a great time in India and were gifted Indian attire to take back home as a present from the university.
Dr. Aman Mittal, Vice President of the university and Head of the Division of International Affairs at LPU, expressed his enthusiasm for the event. “It was an honor to host these students from the UK and to showcase the rich cultural heritage of India. We hope that they have gained new insights and experiences that will stay with them for the lifetime,” he said.
Overall, the event was a successful showcase of the rich cultural exchange between the UK and India, facilitated by LPU. The exchange program provided the visiting students with a unique opportunity to learn about the unique aspects of India and LPU, and to immerse themselves in Indian culture.
