NEW DELHI: The Centre on Tuesday named the new chief justices of the High Courts of Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and Karnataka, namely Justice Pankaj Mithal, Justice A M Magrey and Justice Prasanna B Varale respectively.
Justice Mithal was earlier elevated as the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on January 4, 2021. He is originally from the Allahabad High Court that he joined in July 2006 and became its permanent judge.
Their appointments come days after the Supreme Court Collegium had on September 30 recommended their names.
Justice Varale, who was the seniormost judge of the Bombay High Court that he joined in 2008, is an arts and law graduate from Marathwada University and served as a lecturer in law at the Ambedkar Law College, Aurangabad from 1990 to 1992
Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, a LLB (Nons) from the Kashmir University, became a permanent judge of the J&K High Court in March 2013 and gets elevated there as the Chief Justice.
