NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it will hold the final hearing on November 1 on the plea of Balwant Singh Rajoana, who is in jail for capital punishment in former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh’s assassination in a bomb blast in Chandigarh.

A petition has been filed on behalf of Rajoana to commute his death sentence.

“My client has been in jail for 26 years. But the Supreme Court said that the central government is free to take a decision,” said Balwant Singh Rajoana’s lawyer in the Supreme Court.

However, the central government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, holding that  a decision cannot be taken due to security reasons.
