NEW DELHI: The Congress put full blame on the BJP and the Centre for creation of the worst kind of ethnic violence in Manipur, while the Prime Minister was busy with political rallies in Karnataka and so was Home Minister Amit Shah.

Manipur never witnessed the clash between the two communities that were polarised by the BJP and the people there kept praying to stop politics. Never before such a clash occured between the Maitei and Kuki communities, Congress spokesman Dr Ajoy Kumar told a press conference here.

He blamed the Mnipur chief minister promoting division among the people, forcing the Kukis to vacate the forests, churches were destroyed. He expressed concern that the command is no longer in the hands of the political leaders as the narrative has gone to the extremisst sections of the wo communities. Politicials are talking like the extremists, he said.

The violence started on May 5 but 70 bodies are officially still lying in the mortury of the Imphal Hospital. Nobody is coming forward to take the bodies. Ajoy Kumar said Manipur is a sensitive area that witnessed similar clashes in 2016 when 10 bodies lied unclaimed without cremation in Churachandpur hospital for 100 days.

He demanded immediate rehabilitation who are frightened from the fact that there is no security in the state except in Imphal. “Our delegation led by general secretary Mukul Wasnik and former CM Ibobi Singh found no presence of government in the relief camps.

Ajoy Kumar said the compensation of Rs 5 lakh to those killed, Rs 2 lakh to seriously wounded and Rs 2 lakh to those wounded with minor injuries. He demanded that the minimum compensation should be Rs 20 lakh to the families of those killed, Rs 5 lakh to the seriously wounded people and Rs 1 lakh for the minor injuries.

He said the Congress demands that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister should immedialy hold talks with the leaders of the two communities. He wanted the media to understand the gravity of the problem where 54,000 are destabilised and require rehabilitation.
