NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday protested at the Congress refused a Satyagrah at Rajghat, the Mahatma Gandhi’s Samadhi, as part of the nationwide protests against the second interrogation of its president Sonia Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate in the bogus money laundering in the National Herald case.

Congress general secretary Ajay Maken said it is the same Rajghat where the BJP leaders, including current Union Ministers, had danced after a night-long Dharna in support of Baba Ramdev on June 5, 2011 during the UPA government. Refusal of the Satyagrah there is a murder of democracy as it shows the ruling BJP is scared of any protest by the Congress.

He said harassment to the 75-year old lady through repeated ED summons is clearly a political vendetta. He said this is the first case in India that was refused to be probed by the agency holding all files of the case for nearly 10 years and the case is like an open book and yet interrogations of Rahul Gandhi for five days and that of Sonia Gandhi for the second time on Tuesday is to defame the two respected leaders of the party.

Maken said the ED’s fraud was exposed on July 21 when its officials told Sonia Gandhi that they do not have any further questions to ask her while she was prepared for the interrogations that day up to 8-9 PM. Clearly, the ED wants to interrogate her continuously as otherwise how did the new questions cropped up on Tuesday after claiming on July 21 that it does not have any more questions to ask her, he said.

He accused the government of deliberately harassing the two top Congress leaders by trying to prevent it from raising the issues of its failures on the fronts of the national security, farmers, inflation and unemployment. The Congress, however, will not be frightened from such a tactic.

Maken said the power-drunk Modi government is even snatching away the party’s constitutional right of peaceful Gandhian Satyagrah. Its police even prevented the Congress leaders to enter the AICC headquarters to express solidarity with Sonia Gandhi.

He reminded the Modi Government that the Congress will never bow to the government’s tactics to harass it through the agencies like ED as it is the same Congress which had fought to achieve freedom and democracy in India and it will continue to fight the followers of the Britishers to assert the rights of the Indians
