CONG SEEKS BJP CHIEF’S APOLOGY FOR ITS LEADERS’ HYPE ON ZEE NEWS’ FALSE REPORT

NEW DELHI: Congress chief spokesman Jairam Ramesh on Saturday shot of a letter to BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda to apologise for his party leaders deliberately and enthusiastically sharing mischievous reportage by ZEE News on July 1 at 9 PM.

He said the original video was Rahul Gandhi’s comment on the SFI (student wing of ruling CPI-M) violence on his Wayanad office, but it was deliberately doctored to appear as if it was a comment on the heinous murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur. In fact, not a single other TV channel presented the clip in such a distorted manner.

Jairam warned that if Nadda does not issue the apology on Saturday itself, “we will take appropriate legal action against your party and its leaders who insist and persist in using the social media in such a blatantly irresponsible and criminal manner.” Jairam said the Congress has already initiated appropriate legal action against ZEE News.

He identified BJP MPs Rajyvardhan Rathore, Subrat Pathak, its MLA Kamlesh Saini who shared the ZEE’s distorted reportage. He said they were cautioned by the Congress leaders that the clip was maliciously false and misleading.

Jairam said Rathore persisted with ampliflying the same, first deleting and then re-uploading the same. “This leaves no doubt that his actions were deliberate and part of your party’s strategy to defame the former Congress President, to defame the Congress and further polarise an already sensitive, communal situation.”

“The fact that some of your colleagues may have deleted the false reportage later after uploading and sharing is no excuse whatsoever because the damage has already been inflicted,” he added.
