NEW DELHI: The Congress slammed the government for waiving the limit of the corporate donations to the political parties under the electoral bonds scheme.

“You are putting the legal sanction to the crony capitalism, while the Congress wanted a transparency in the poll funding,” said Congress spokesman Pawan Khera.

He told a press conference here that a company cannot give more than 7.5% of its net profit in three years, but the Modi government has removed this limit. The companies are also not required to disclose how much money they donated to the political parties. This is totally untransparent, he said.

When such a big money goes into the account of a party, it is clear how the black money is converted into “white,” Khera added.

Khera said th BJP has unleashed the electoral bonds scheme, brought by late Arun Jaitley in 2017, to legitimise its loot through crony capitalism. He pointed out that Rs. 5,200 crores in two financial years came in the coffers of the ruling party through electoral bonds, without any questions, without answers, without the country getting to know what is the quid pro quo? Who did you get this from? Why did you get this money? What did you give in return? No answers.

“You add the money received by all other political parties and then you compare that to what the BJP received; the BJP is three times higher,” he added.
