NEW CODE BARS DOCTORS ADVERTISE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

NEW DELHI: The medical practitioner are barred from advertising or marketing for many decades, but an axe will fall on those using the social media to collect likes and followers as even their licence to practice may be suspended.

The Indian Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a new code of conduct for the doctors with stern steps against the likes and followers on the social media sites and Apps, noting that many agencies charge fee to increase the doctors’ popularity on the social media and the doctors raise their fees on that basis.

Under the new code, a doctor can give any important information or declaration, provided it is true and not misleading he patients. They are also barred from prescribing treatment or medicine on the social sites. Any patient seeking their services can be treated personally or throuh telemedicine under the new code.

The code also bans displaying the test reports of the patients on the social media platform, nor can the doctors display videos or photographs of the patients successfully cured by them. Doctors having specialisation in any subject can use the social media to educate the doctors on the line of treatment to be followed in case of a particular disease.
