NEW DELHI: Kashmiri photojournalist Mohd Manan Dar, who spent over a year in jail, was released on bail on Tuesday from Tihar Jail here, with a Delhi court said charges levelled by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) were “mere assumptions.”

He was nabbed with his brother Hanan Dar and 11 others in October 2021, days after a string of targeted killings of the members of the minority community and migrant workers.

A family member, who received him from the Jail, said he is in high spirits and looks forward to continue as a journalist.”

In its bail order pronounced on Monday, January 2, the court ruled that the central agency’s evidence against Manan is “not sufficient” to prove that he was part of the conspiracy “to undertake violent terrorist activities in the State of Jammu & Kashmir and other parts of India including Delhi after abrogation of Article 370 from the Constitution of India.”
