NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has repeated his magic of Delhi in Punjab, sweeping it with the broom (Jhadu) symbol in a landslide victory in the 117-member state Assembly and inflicting a massive defeat to the Congress ruling in the state.

Bhagwant Singh Mann alias Jugnu (48), a comedian in Punjabi plays and twice Lok Sabha MP from Sangrur since 2014, will be the chief minister of the border state with Pakistan as AAP contested the elections, declaring him as the CM candidate.

Those all swept out by AAP are former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who had tied up with the BJP, state Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu and Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi of Congress as also Akali Dal’s former CM Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal. Final official results were not out, but trends were irreversible as AAP candidates were leading by good margins.

Captain, the former ruler of Patiala, lost from his fiefdom to AAP’s Ajit Pal Singh Kohli. Sidhu was trounced by a lady, Jeevan Jyot Kaur of AAP while Channi couldn’t make it despite contesting from two seats of Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur, losing to AAP’s Charanjit Singh and Labh Singh Ugoke respectively.

Senior Badal lost to AAP’s Gurmeet Singh Khudian while Sukhbir lost to AAP’s Jagdeep Kamboj.
