NEW DELHI: The Press Club of India, Press Association, Delhi Union of Journalists, Indian Journalists Union, Digipub News India Foundation and Working News Cameraman Association jointly condemned the vendetta let loose against the founders of The Wire news website and its staffers by raiding their homes on Sunday and seizing heir digital devices.

In a joint statement, they alleged that Delhi Police let loose terror by conducting elaborate searches on a complaint by the head of BJP’s National IT Department and that too without providing a hash value as per procedure.

The FIR lists grievous complaints against those running The Wire of defamation, forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy for a post that was taken down by the news portal and despite its detail retraction for its editorial lapses.

As per a statement issued by the Wire, the crime branch took away hard disks from the office and phones, I-pads and computers as well, without as much mentioning the hash value of the equipment, a requirement to maintain the integrity of the data.
