NEW DELHI: A PIL in the Jabalpur High Court has revealed that around 2,000 acres of the Indian Army in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh was illegally leased out to a cement factory of the JK Group by the BJP state government of Shivraj Singh Chouhan in 2016-17..

The Indian Army asserted in the High Court that the land belongs to it and cannot be allotted to JK Cement. It has objected to allotment of the land to the private cement factory on lease without its consent.

The land was donated to the Indian Army by then ex-ruler of Panna in 1949.

Congress leader Pankaj Sharma, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, tweeted that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is silent on this illegality committed by his own party’s government to lease out the Army land to JK Cement without any authorisation. He wondered why Prime Minister Modi claiming to be a champion of “nationalism” did not remove Chouhan as the CM for this kind of illegality, affecting the Indian Army.
