NEW DELHI/ DOUBLE INTERNSHIP MANDATED FOR FOREIGN MEDICAL GRADUATES

From Our Bureau

NEW DELHI: The medical graduates studying abroad will have to undergo double internship of one year in the host country and one year in India and only those studying in English will be allowed to take the exit test for practicing in India as doctors.

These rules have been notified in the Foreign Medical Graduate Licensing Regulations issued by the National Medical Commission on Tuesday.

They say only those medical degrees from abroad will be recognised only if they are equivalent to the MBBS degree in India and which require 54 months of studies.

The new rules come as a rude shock to those obtaining the medical degrees from Russia, China, Germany etc which impart education in the local languages.
