NEW DELHI: Amid road blockades by Congress workers around India Gate and police barricades to prevent their demonstrations here, Union Minister Smriti Irani claimed at a press conference at the BJP headquarters that they were not to protect democracy but protect the Gandhis’ assets of Rs 2,000 amassed through corrupt practices.

Deprecating the Congress by holding the “Satygraha” march for terrorising the Enforcement Directorate through demonstrations across the country to stop probe into the misdeeds of the Gandhi family in the National Herald case, she said Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul stand exposed that the Young Indian firm set up by them for charity work did no charity in six years from 2010 to 2016 and now doing real estate business.

Questioning Rahul’s relations with Botex Merchandise Private Limited nabbed for the Hawala rackets, Irani accused the Gandhi family of usurping the Associated Journals limited (AJL)set up by 5,000 freedom fighters as shareholders in the 1930s for publishing National Herald and other newspapers and how it waived the loan of Rs 90 crore the company. She circulated a document in which AJL declared in 2008 that it shall no longer publish newspapers, but will go into the business of real estate.
