NEW DELHI/IT’S 400 DAYS & YET 63 CRORE WITHOUT COVID VACCINATION

NEW DELHI: It’s 400th day of the national vaccination drive on Saturday and yet as many as 63 crore out of 139 crore population in India has not been vaccinated at all, belying the government’s claim to vaccinate all by December 31, 2021, the Health Ministry figures reveal.

The health ministry data shows 95.97 crore or to be exact 95,97,88,888 have been administered the Covid-19 vaccines till todate while those given both the doses stood at 76.73 crore, or to be exact 76,73,20,601, while the third precaution dose has been taken by 1,84,90,152 people.

The nationwide vaccination to fight Covid-19 disease had begun on 16 January 2021.

Those infected with the dreaded virus may be much higher than the official figure of 4.28 crore as only 75.81 crore have been tested so far and the pace of testing is slow at 12.35 lakh tested in the past 24 hours, notwithstanding the Centre asking the states for the past two months to speed up the tests. Even the daily vaccination slowed down on Saturday to 36.28 lakh as against the Cemtre’s target of over 1 crore.

The Health Ministry on Saturday reported a further dip in daily infections in 24 hours to 22,270 and 325 deaths. The active caseload currently is 2,53,739 which stands at 0.59% of the total infections. The country’s overall death toll is 5,11,230. Kerala continues to top with the daily deaths of 61, followed by Karnataka 19 and West Bengal 13. The national capital recorded 607 new Covid-19 cases and four related deaths.

As many as 42.03 million people have recovered out of 42.80 million, giving the recovery rate of 98.21%. The daily positivity rate plunges further to 1.80% while the weekly positivity rate stood at 2.50%.
