NEW DELHI: Over 100 people are arriving from Nagpur, Akola and other places for a protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar here on Thursday to press for creation of a separate state of Vidarbha.
Their leaders Prakash Pohare and Avinash Kakde told a Press conference here that the Bharatiya Janata Party had promises to set up the separate state if it came to power. Even after coming to power in 2014, it has, however, backed out for political reasons.
People from the region have held demonstrations for the statehood to Vidarbha, separate from Maharashtra for over three decades.
The advance team of the leaders have drawn up plans to meet all 10 MPs of Vidarbha as also Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah besides Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former president Rahul Gandhi to build up their case for creating the separate state.
