NEW DELHI: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been moved in the Supreme Court for a direction to the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) to collect a time-bound data from all states’ police on investigations showing a direct link between the pornography and rape cases. The petition has been brought by advocate Nalin Kohli (51), a national spokesman of BJP, stating how the investigations by the Assam Police revealed the gruesome rape and murder of a 6-year girl child by four persons, including two minor boys between 8 and 11, were porn addicts.
He revealed that the Assam Police followed up with guidelines to be followed by the investigting officer for collecting digital evidence in probing the offences of rape, molestation and other sexual offences.
The petitioner has prayed for directing the state governments to urgently make available such data from their respective police and investigation agencies, noting an alarming increase of cases of sexual assaults and rape against women and innocent children in various parts of the country.
Referring to newspapers filled with extremely disturbing and distressing news of rape and sexual abuse against all age groups, the petition said: “The most appalling fact of such news is that many victims of such crimes are children, including infants. This become a matter of even greater concern in an environment where sex education for appropriate sexual behaviour is not part of the education system and treated as socially inappropriate and even a taboo.”
