PROTEST OVER REMOVAL OF ‘MOUNI BABA’

NEW DELHI: The Congress MPs protested in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday on the chairman expunging ‘mouni baba’ (silence) of Prime Minister Modi by Congress President and Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge a day earlier.

Kharge insisted that it was not an unparliamentary word to be removed as it had been even used by then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and the chairman can check the records.

The chairman, however, ignored objection to his ruling and continued the business.

Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar had told Kharge: “You are a very senior member, sir. This does not suit you. Don’t use these juicy expressions.”

The Congress members did not pursue the matter further, though Kharge registered protest at the remarks against Prime Minister Modi being removed from the proceedings. Don’t be so harsh to the opposition, he pleaded.
