SC ALLOWS GOVT DOCTOR TO KEEP MEDICINES AT HOME

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has ruled that a government doctor can restore medicines at home and give them to the patient and reversed a Madras High Court order and discharged the doctor held under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940.

It noted that the doctor is head of the department of skins assistant professor in a medical college and 23 types of drugs seized by the drug inspector were not excessive. The medicines seized were less in quantity and they were stocked for consultations to the patients by Dr Atilaxmi. She was set free trashing the order of a magistrate’s court for hoarding medicines without proper licence that attracted five years of jail.
