SC TO HEAR PLEA AGAINST PROBE INTO JHARKHAND CM’S MINING SCAM

NEW DELHI: A Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana, on Monday agreed to two separate pleas against the High Court accepting maintainability of a PIL for a probe against Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren into alleged irregularities in grant of the coal mining leases to himself and family members.

The Bench, which also comprised Justices Krishna Murari and Hima Kohli took note of the urgency pleaded in the mentioning by senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Meenakshi Arora. Sibal appeared for the state government and Arora for the chief minister.

The CJI didn’t give a date for hearing but said: “We will list it.”

The Jharkhand high court had accepted the maintainability of the PIL seeking a probe against the chief minister.
