NEW DELHI: The Armed Forces have so far declared 41 rallies for recruitment of Agniveers, but none is for women. The defence ministry sources said women Agniveers will be recruited only in the military police for policing at the military centres.

They said 800 women are to be recruited in the military police, though 83 of them have been already recruited after completing 61 weeks of training in May last year and since then the process for the new batch has not begun. Around 100 vacancies are expected in the second phase.

The Indian Army plans rallies in Ambala, Jabalpur, Shillong, Lucknow and Bengaluru for recruitment of the women Agniveers. Its plan is to recruit 40,000 Agniveers in the first year while the Air Force is still preparing for the process of the recruitment.

The Indian Navy has declared recruitment of 3,000 Agniveer in the first year that will include 20% women.
