SONIA DOWN WITH COVID +VE

NEW DELHI: Congress President Sonia Gandhi(75) is down with Covid +ive, a test on Tuesday showed. She had developed mild fever and Covid symptoms Monday evening.

In a tweet, Congress chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala attributed it to leaders and activists she has been meeting over the last one week, some of whom have been found Covid +ive.

All the same, the Congress President will appear before the Enforcement Directorate on June 8 on the summons issued in the alleged money laundering in the National Herald case, he added. She has self-isolated to ensure no one is infected by her. Her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who rushed back from Lucknow where she was holding a party meeting, but she was advised to keep away from Sonia.

Summons were issued also to Sonia’s son Rahul Gandhi to appear before ED on Thursday for questioning. He wrote back on Wednesday to give any other date after June 5 since he is now abroad. ED wanted to interrogate both mother and son to record their statements under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).VENU TOO: AICC General Secretary, in-charge of organisation, has also tested positive of Covid-19, a Congress tweet said, wishing him a full and speedy recovery.

Senior Congress spokesman and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi said no money transaction nor any land deal has taken place to attract PMLA in a clearly politically motivated case as the Modi government has been using its agencies like ED and CBI to harass the opposition leaders. He said the Congress will not be terrorised by such vindictive actions.
