NEW DELHI: The government has published a draft notification to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, to allow trade certificates for five years to the dealer/manufacturer/importer of the vehicles instead of the current limitation of 12 months.
It said this is to promote “Ease of doing business” as those possessing vehicles for sale or testing can apply for trade certificate or trade registration marks electronically for multiple types of vehicles in a single application on the Vahan portal, without the need to visit the RTO.
The trade certificate enables a temporary registration number to the vehicle until it is sold out.
The notification also streamlines fees. Since the trade certificate or registration marks are to be allotted online electronically on the portal, the burden of intimation of loss of the certificate and application for duplicate has been also removed.
