WHO WARNS AGAINST ANTIVIRAL DRUG REMDESIVIR IN PATIENTS WITH SEVERE COVID-19

NEW DELHI: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has strongly warned against the antiviral drug Remdesivir use in the patients with critical Covid-19.

The strong recommendation replaces previous conditional recommendations for their use and is based on emerging evidence from laboratory studies that these drugs are not likely to work against currently circulating variants, such as Omicron.

Its recommendation came even as the Covid-19 cases in India dropped to 5,747 on Saturday with 29 deaths, 13 of them reconciled from previous days in Kerala. Karnataka on Saturday reported 4 Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours ending at 08 AM, followed by 2 each in Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Kerala and 1 each in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh Odisha, Tamil Nadu, UP and West Bengal. India’s total death toll wewnt up to 5,28,302.

The active cases in India went up to 46,848 while the recoveries stood at 4,39,53,374, giving the recovery rae of 98.71%. Daily positivity rate stood at 1.69%, the weekly rate 1.74%.

The nationwide vaccination reached 216.41 crore, including 23.92 lakh in the past 24 hours. The total tests conducted so far stood at 89.12%, including 3.40 lakh tests done in the last 24 hours.
