NEW DELHI: Ghulam Nabi Azad, chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) has refuted as rumours that he is going to occupy the chair of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in near future.

He clarified in Srinagar at his party’s first foundation day on Sunday that he has no interest in the LG post as he wants to serve the people of J&K.

“I will request people not to trust the rumour mills which are working in overdrive. I have not come looking for a job. I want to serve the people,” he said, noting that some people were giving false impression that he is looking for rehabilitation.

“There were some political mistakes over many years that pushed the state backwards instead of going forward. In the last nine years, another great mistake was made to remove Article 370 and Article 35A, pushing J&K further backward. There was an uncertainty whether the land will stay with us or not,” he said, noting that Article 35A was not promulgated after Independence but brought by the Maharaja (Hari Singh) in 1925.

Azad asserted that the hard work by his party workers in a span of 12 months has made his party a “politicla alternative” and he now looks for the early Assembly elections to show the party’s strength.
