NEW DELHI: Defence Ministry has allowed “BRO cafes” by the Border Road Organisation (BRO) on its roads at 75 locations in 12 states/Union Territories to provide wayside amenities and comforts to the tourists and boost the economic activities in the border areas, generating employment to the locals.
The scheme ENVISAGES development and operation of wayside amenities in public-private partnership mode with agencies, on license basis, which will design, build & operate the facility as per guidelines of BRO. Amenities like parking for two and four wheelers, food plaza/ restaurant, separate rest rooms for men, women and differently abled, first aid facilities/MI Rooms etc. are proposed to be provided. Selection of licencees will be done through a competitive process. The licence will be for 15 years, extendable by another 5 years.
The locations proposed are Teepee, Tragbal, Husaingaon, km 95, 117.90 and km 58. galhar, Siot, Bathuni, Budhal, Kapotha and Surankot in Jammu and Kashmir, Kargl, Matiyam, Mullbek, Khaltse, Leh, Hundar, Choglamsar, Rumtse, Debring, Pang, Sarchu, Agham, Nyoma and Hanle in Ladakh, Fazilka in Punjab and Tanot Dett, km 44.40 Sadhuwali village, Birdhwal and Arjansar in Rajasthan.
Other states to be covered by the BRO caves are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Sikkim, West Bengal and Uttarakhand.
