NEW DELHI: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday tweeted the tragedy of the Modi government belying its promise of 2 crore jobs every year as 22 crore filled up the application forms, but only 7 lakh could get the employment. “Bhatkao Janata Party (BJP) wants not to discuss this important issue,” adding that #BharatJodoYatra is a step to unite the youths to raise their voice on it. Meanwhile, party spokesman Pawan Khera and Manish Khanduri said in a statement while walking in the Bharat Jodo Yatra that along his march, Rahul Gandhi continued to directly engage an interact with locals. He met the first lady bus driver in Asia, Vasanthakumari, 63. He interacted with sanitation workers and the local unemployed youth who accompanied him part of the way. “42% of our youth are unemployed today. Is Bharat’s future secure if they remain without work? We walk for them all. We walk for jobs,” Rahul said. He was accompanied by individuals such as Usaiah, 62, who independently travelled hundreds of kilometres from his residence at Medpalil, Telangana, to join the Yatra. Talking about the Yatra, Congress leader Knhaiya Kumar said: “The objective of this yatra was to highlight social, economic and political inequality, but it is already more than that. Walking along the roads, we are actually connecting to the local cultures, languages, architecture, even the local flora and fauna. It’s a mass connect movement at a fundamental level.” Khera said this is Day 3 of the long padyatra. He said in the later half of the day, the Yatris crossed into Kerala, marking end of the programme in Tamil Nadu, and the day’s journey ended across the border at Cheruvarakonam, Kerala.
