NEW DELHI: Both the Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday attacked each other on the findings of the committee on the Pegasus spying disclosed in the Supreme Court.

While Rahul Gandhi harped on Twitter on the committee faulting the government for no cooperation in its work, former union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the expert committee of the Apex Court clearly shows an unnecessary commotion was created on defame India and Prime Minister Modi.

“PM and his govt’s non-cooperation with the SC-appointed committee is an acceptance that they had something deeper to hide and want to crush democracy,” Rahul tweeted.

At a Press conference at the AICC Hq, Congress spokesman Prof. Gourav Vallabh said how can the government answer properly. “If they give the answers properly, they have to tell under which provision or Act, they had installed or they had used the Pegasus weapon against Rahul Gandhi, against the leaders of opposition parties as also against senior journalists, important scientists, civil society activiss and the election commission and even the Supreme Court,” the professor said.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, who held the Information Technology portfolio in the government in 2019 at the time of the Pegasus spying disclosure, said those indulging in the false propganda against the government are exposed in the Committee report.

He said the committee has found no Pegasus imprint in 29 mobile phones which were alleged to have been infected nor hs it find any evidence of the spying. He said the Congress stalled two sessions of Parliament on the Pegasus issue. Rahul Gandhi must apologise for false allegation of surveillance on the Prime Minister, he said.

Prasad claimed the Pegasus campaign was a motivated campaign in which there was no truth and as such it requires Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the Congress to apologise. He said the Congress leaders and Rahul are mistaken that they can expand the party with the help of such lies.

Before Pegasus, the same Congress had led false propaganda on the Raffle and the Central Vista. He said its every lie was rejected in the court of the people. He also referred to an RTI report that 9,000 phones nd 500 E-mail accounts were under surveillance during the Congress-led UPA government.
