NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Gaurav Bhatia on Wednesday demanded an unqualified apology from the Congress and its president Sonia Gandhi for their role in backing Mumbai-based activist Teesta Sitalwad in a political conspiracy against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then Gujarat Chief Minister through two decades of false campaign and his character assassination by accusing him all these years of of mastering the 2002 riots in Gujarat. In one stroke, the Supreme Court knocked down the charge on Modi as false propaganda, he said.

He wondered whether the Congress has any faith in the Supreme Court and why it is organising protest demonstrations. He said the top court has exposed how bogus witnesses were presented to present a concocted story for defaming Modi.

Bhatia asked on what basis the Congress-led UPA government honoured Seetalwad with the civilian Padma Shri award and why it extended Rs 1.40 crore to the NGOs controlled by her.

He said the Supreme Court’s judgment on June 24 blew up the bogus case built against Modi and the Ahmedabad crime branch instituted an FIR against Sitalwad based on this very judgment, whose real face has come to light trashing her claim of fighting for the human rights. She must be prosecuted for filing the forged affidavits, which is a crime under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Bhatia ridiculed the Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Jairam Ramesh heading a demonstration against Sitalwad, claiming democracy is under threat. He asked Sonia Gandhi whether the Congress has trust in the top court of the country or not.
