NEW DELHI: In a major development, the Supreme Court ordered fresh counselling within two weeks for 146 seats in the NEET (PG) admissions, cancelling the all-India quota mop-up round of counselling for the post-graduate medical admissions.

The counselling based on the rank list of 2021–22 National Eligibility-cum Entrance Test(Postgraduate) or NEET(PG) was cancelled by a Bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud, in order to resolve the anomalies arising from the addition of 146 seats in the mop-up round.

The Bench noted that the newly added seats were not included in the first two rounds of counselling.

The candidates who had secured admission earlier in the all–India quota or the state quotas too can participate in the special counselling, without any additional fees, the Bench ruled.

It also directed the Director General of Health Services to invite options from students within 72 hours after the cut –off time for the options.

The Court clarified that all the directions have been issued by exercising its jurisdiction under Article 142 of the Constitution to ensure justice.
