NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Centre on its May 19 Ordinance to control Delhi government services challenged by the latter as unconstitutional and so immediately put on hold.

A bench of Chief Jutice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha also directed Delhi government to include Lt Governor Vina Kumar Saxena as a respondent.

In a setback to the Kejriwal government, it, however, declined to stay the operation of the ordinance vehemently argued by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on behalf of the AAP government.

The ordinance, which came a week after the Supreme Court handed over the control of services in Delhi, excluding police, public order and land to the elected government, seeks to set up an authority for transfer and disciplinary proceedings against Group-A officers from Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DANICS) civil cadre.

Transfers and postings of all officers of Delhi government were under the executive control of the LG before the May 11 verdict of the top court.
