NEW DELHI: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday had a dig at Prime Minister Modi promising government employment to 10 lakh youth in the next 18 months at a time when 60 lakh government posts are lying vacant. Why only 10 lakh, why not 60 lakh?
In a tweet, he said this promise is alike a ‘jumla’ (gimmick) eight years ago to assure the youths with 2 crore jobs every year. He said this is a government of the ‘jumlas’ and the Prime Minister is expert on making “news” on employment and not in creating the jobs.

The announcement of the PM’s push came in an official tweet by his office on Tuesday: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reviewed the status of human resources in all central government ministries and departments and ordered the recruitment of 10 lakh people in a mission mode in the next 18 months.”

It was on June 2 that PM Modi had said employment should be the focus and asked secretaries of the central government to take immediate steps to fill up vacancies in ministries and government departments.
