STATES OFFERED 15 LAKH TONNES OF PULSES AT DISCOUNT OF RS 8 PER KG

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister, on Wednesday offered 15 lakh tonnes of Pulses-Chana, namely Tur, Orad and Masur, at a discount price of Rs 8 per kg on first come first serve.

This is one-time dispensation for 12 months or till the complete disposal of 15 lakh tonnes. It will cost the Centre Rs 1200 crore.

It is supplying the pulses from the stock bought under the price support scheme and price stabilisation fund. Its offer to the states to use the pulses under welfare schemes including PDS out of 30.55 tonnes available with it, noting that the production of pulses is expected to be good in the coming Rabi season, lso because of higher Minimum Support Price (MSP) during 2022-23.

The government sources said the farmers will get remunerative price of pulses, encouraging more farmers to grow such pulses by making higher investment. They said this will help in achieving self-sufficiency of the pulses in our country.
