NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday accused the Congress of its controversial post on Twitter on the burning of the RSS shorts and demanded to take down the picture immediately.

BJP national spokesman Sambit Patra targeted the Congress, asserting at a press conference here that “it’s not ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ but ‘Bharat Todo’ and ‘Aag Lagao Yatra’. This is not the first time the Congress has done so. I want to ask Rahul Gandhi, do you want violence in this country? The Congress should take down this picture immediately.”

The Congress reacted sharply, denying any such tweet and said the BJP is so frustrated that it spreads such lies as it has no answer to the movement of the Bharat Jodo Yatra gaining momentum. Hatred and violence come in the BJP’s philosophy and not in the Congress philosophy, the Congress said.

Jitin Prasada, a former Congress leader who is now a minister in the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh government, was first to question the Congress tweet. He condemned the Congress saying what sort of mindset calls for burning the political opponents.

Questioning the Congress denial of any such post, he tweeted the so-called post which reads: “To free the country from shackles of hate and undo the damage done by BJP-RSS. Step by step, we will reach our goal: #Bharat Jodo Yatra.”

Another BJP spokesman R P Singh condemned the Congress post showing “burning of RSS short,” saying that “the corrupt people should fear khakhi.”
