NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party leadership is ramping up preparations for the Assembly polls in five states this year, followed by the Lok Sabha polls next April, by first changing the state presidents and organising general secretaries before the union cabinet and national level organisational changes.

It has already changed four state presidents and the party sources said those in other states may also be changed in the coming days. BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda also appointed former Andhra chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy as a member of the party’s national executive.

The first four state presidents changed are from Punjab, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The command of Punjab has been given to Sunil Jakhar, who was once state president of the Congress and son of late former Lok Sabha Speaker Balram Jakhar. The Jharkhand command has gone to former Jharkhand CM Babulal Marandi (65), who is also leader of opposition in the state assembly.

G Kishan Reddy has been made the state president of Telangana, who the responsibility of Andhra Pradesh has been entrusted to former union minister P Purandeshwari.
