MODI NEVER UTTERED SECULARISM IN PAST 7 YEARS, SAYS NATWAR

NEW DELHI: Former external affairs minister K Natwar Singh (93) has said his son joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since he did not influence him, but no question of himself ever joining that party since “our value systems are different.”

In an interview by Dr Mayank Daral early this month at his Jorbagh residence here, Natwar Singh said he is a good Hindu but not enthusiastic to the Hindutva that the BJP practises and that is the fundamental difference.

He also had a dig at Prime Minister Modi for not using the word “secularism” even once in seven years. “This is a secular country and if it is not secure, we are in trouble,” Natwar Singh said.

Noting that he had worked under three prime ministers — Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, he said he found Indira Gandhi the best.
