NEW DELHI/RULES ON CARRYING KIDS BELOW 4 ON MOTOR CYCLE

NEW DELHI: The Road Transport and Highways Ministry has notified new rules under the Motor Vehicles Act for carrying children below four years of age for their safety.

The notification issued on February 15 specifies use of a safety harness and crash helmet for them and restricts the speech of the motorcycle to 40 km per hours. Its draft was issued in October 2021 for public comments.

The rules are called the Central Motor Vehicles (Second Amendment) Rules, 2022, and they will come into force one year after the gazette notification.

The safety measures mandated for the motor cycle driver on carrying a child between the age of nine months and four years as a lillion require use of safety harness to attach the child to the driver. The safety harness is an adjustable vest to be worn by the child, forming shoulder loops to be worn by the driver and the torso of the child is securely attached to the driver.
