NEW DELHI/ SC QUASHES MARRIAGE FOR WOMAN NOT LIVING WITH IN-LAWS FOR LONG

From Our Bureau

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered dissolution of a marriage on the ground that the woman was not living with her husband or the in-laws for over 12 years and it did not want to put pressure on her if she does not want to revive the marital relations.

A Bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and Abhay S Oka said the woman did not try to restart the marital relations nor did she file any petition to claim her marital rights. She is working in a college in Guwahati while her husband is engaged in business away from her in Tezpur district in Assam.

She had gone to the in-laws in Tezpur only once in December 2009 when her mother-in-law had died but stayed there for just one day.
