NEW DELHI: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has sought extension of the recruitment age in the defence forces by at least two years to accommodate the youth becoming overage for want of any recruitment in the forces for the last two years.

In a letter to defence minister Rajnath Singh, she said lakhs of posts in the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy are lying vacant while those preparing for the recruitment are becoming nervous for no jobs despite hard work they do to serve the nation by joining the forces.

She pointed out that the exams for the posts of airmen were held in November 2020 and the results were also declared in the same month and all tests were completed and provisional selection lists have been out, but the date of the enrolments have been repeatedly extended.

Lakhs had appeared in another airmen’s exam in July 2021 and the results were supposed to be out in August that year. Priyanka said the results should be out to start the further process for recruitment.
