NEW DELHI: Congress MP Jothimani Sennimalai(47) from Tamil Nadu sitting at Parliament’s entrance gate No 1 with three other party MPs suspended from the Lok Sabha for the entire monsoon session was manhandled by the security personnel and her salwar was torn near the knee-cap in the scuffle.

“See how a woman Parliamentarian has been treated. We are fighting for others and we not be frightened by such tactics of the government,” she told reporters. Others who were sitting on the entrance steps were Manickam Tagore (Tamil Nadu), T N Prathap and Ms Ramya Haridas (both from Kerala).

The Congress MPs, led by Rahul Gandhi and Rajya Sabha Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge, staged a protest under the Mahatma Gandhi’s statue for the government not allowing them to raise the issues of public importance like price rise and new GST hike on the food items.

Coming out of the Parliament precincts, they courted arrest at the nearby Vijay Chowk, where they were also arrested on Tuesday, alongwith Rahul and Kharge, while trying to march to the Rashtrapati Bhawan to apprise President Murmu of what all was happening in the Modi raj. They carried the banner of “Stop Misuse of ED” even as the Enforcement Directorate carried out third day of Sonia Gandhi’s interrogation.
